About

out of seven is a beer rating and forecast app built around a simple idea: your palate is yours, and a "top beer" list that ignores it is doing you a disservice. So we learn from what you actually rate, and use that to predict — on the same 1-to-7 scale — how much you'll enjoy beers you haven't tried.

How it works

Every tasting you log calibrates a model of your taste (a Rasch model, if you're into statistics). That model produces personal forecasts that get sharper as you rate more things. The Methodology page has the full explanation if you're curious about the math.

Why seven

One through seven. Seven is narrow enough to force a real choice but wide enough to capture nuance. Five is too coarse (everything becomes a four) and ten is too wide (the middle collapses). Seven lands between them.
